Our expert technicians can handle any Volvo service in Chicago that you may need, and are happy to recommend tips and tricks to keep your Volvo running like new, no matter what the season. With summer in full swing and temperatures reaching 90+ in Chicago on certain days, it's important to make sure that you - and your vehicle - are prepared.

10 Tips for Maintaining Your Volvo in the Summer

  1. Be sure to check you tire pressure frequently. When there are drastic temperature changes, your tire pressure is likely to fluctuate. Also, don't forget to check your spare tire! If you should get a flat or a blowout, you'll be thankful that you did so that you can change your tire and move on instead of standing in the heat waiting for a tow truck.
  2. Have your oil changed on a regular basis. Oil keeps your engine's parts running smoothly so that your engine stays as cool as possible. Our Volvo service technicians will also change your oil filter as needed.
  3. If you winterized your Volvo, de-winterize it! This means swapping your snow tires for all-season tires, which are lighter and offer your vehicle better fuel economy. Also be sure to clean underneath your vehicle to remove any leftover salt from the roads.
  4. Ask your Volvo service technician to check out your radiator and coolant, as well as hoses and belts that help the radiator pump coolant to and from the engine block.
  5. Have your car's air filter replaced. A clogged air filter will severely lower your Volvo's fuel efficiency. An air filter should be changed approximately every 12,000 miles.
  6. Replacing your windshield wipers sounds like a no-brainer, but you'd be surprised how many drivers forget to do this on a regular basis! You'll be thankful that you did should a sudden, rainy thunderstorm hit.
  7. Have your brakes checked. Our Volvo service technicians can inform you of when your brakes need to be changed to ensure you and your family's safety.
  8. Make sure your coolant levels are where they should be. In the summer, coolant should be added as a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and water. There is even premixed coolant that you can purchase so that you don't have to measure yourself.
  9. Keep your battery clean. Hot weather is tougher on your battery than winter weather is. Regularly detach your battery cables and wipe off the terminals, and be sure that it is strapped down tightly and that all connections are secure. Our technicians can also check for you.
  10. Keep your air conditioning maintained. The worst thing you'd want to happen is getting stuck in traffic on the highway on a hot day and have your air conditioning fail. Our service technicians can recharge your air conditioning unit and check for any leaks to ensure that it is functioning properly.

As always, when you need Volvo service and maintenance, our service technicians are available for you! We will ensure that you Volvo is running like new and that you can confidently drive around the Chicago area confident that your vehicle is prepared for whatever summer has to offer.
