Volvo will debut the S60 Cross Country at the Detroit auto show.
Volvo has increased the sedan’s ride height by 2.5 inches and added all-wheel drive. The S60 Cross Country will go on sale in the United States this summer.
It is similar to the new V60 Cross Country that debuted at the Los Angeles show. Volvo calls both vehicles crossovers, but their ride height is lower than the typical crossover.
The S60 Cross Country joins vehicles such as the BMW 5-series Grand Turismo and Honda Crosstour in a niche that blends sedan and crossover attributes.
“We want to further explore the market with our Cross Country brand. We did this back in 1997 with the V70 Cross Country and it led to the birth of a whole new segment,” Lex Kerssemakers, senior vice president of product strategy and vehicle line management at Volvo Cars, said in a statement.
