Protecting you and the ones you love most has always been at the core of the Volvo Brand. Each year we continue to innovate and expand on previous ideas to create the safest driving experience for our customers. This blog will cover some of the newest safety features for the 2025 Volvo lineup.

Volvo vehicle showcasing advanced safety technology

Driver Understanding

Humans are great drivers, but at times we can have off moments. Driver understanding is an award-winning system that can help detect distraction and impairment. This combined with external sensor data can be used to alert your car when to intervene & assist the driver.

Occupant Sensing

Some days we can be a little forgetful! That’s why full-cabin Occupant Sensing is available in the Volvo EX90. This system is designed to help you avoid leaving loved ones behind in the car. The interior radars can sense submillimeter scale movement to ensure no one no matter how big or small is left behind in your vehicle.

Collision Avoidance

Helping you avoid collisions with vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and animals. With a plethora of warnings, including audible, visual, and brake pulse warnings, your Volvo alerts you to danger in your way. This feature can also brake or steer automatically to help prevent or mitigate collisions.

Cross Traffic Alert

Reverse with ease, even in low-visibility situations. Cross Traffic Alert detects approaching vehicles behind you and provides warnings. Your Volvo can even automatically brake to help prevent a collision.

Speed Cap

Drive safer with a smart speed cap. Since 2020, all new Volvo cars have a 112 mph speed cap. Plus, the Care Key lets you set an extra limit when lending your car to a friend, family or new driver.

Shielded Battery

In our fully electric cars, the high-voltage battery is safely embedded beneath the floor, in the center of the car’s body structure. It’s protected by a dedicated battery safety cage, an integrated part of the frame that applies the same principles we use to protect occupants. This design helps enhance protection in a wide range of crash scenarios, including different directions of impact and types of collisions. In our plug-in hybrids, the battery is also placed in the middle of the car, centrally under the floor. It benefits from the same protection of the occupant safety cage.

With all of these great safety features protecting you on the road, you can count on a Volvo Car to get you safely to your destination.
